Learn about Sailboat Racing Race Committee Work at FBYC
Fishing Bay Yacht Club, Deltaville, VA will offer a FREE two-part Race Committee Training Program to all sailors interested in becoming valuable race committee members. The program includes classroom instruction and on-the-water practice.
Part 1: Saturday, March 19 from 1 - 5 p.m. in Richmond, VA
This classroom session will be conducted by nationally recognized RC trainer, John McCarthy. John has taught hundreds of people and will outline the various positions on board the RC boat including mark setter, wind readers, sounder/recorder, signaler, timer, line sighter, and scorer. Participants will receive a few RC tools to take home and be able to sign up to serve on a race committee event. Part 2: Saturday/Sunday, April 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Deltaville, VA
These on-the-water sessions will focus on safety, boat handling and mark boat procedures. Taught by Ann Manella, a US Sailing Certified Instructor Trainer, this weekend covers small boat rescue techniques, towing small boats, power boat handling techniques and course setting. In conjunction with the above free programs, FBYC is also sponsoring a day-long Club Race Management Seminar offered by US Sailing on Saturday, April 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Deltaville, VA. This seminar is designed for prospective club level race officers and others looking to contribute to club racing at a higher level. The course requires 90-120 minutes of work prior to the session and is taught by US Sailing instructor Jerry Thompson. The fee for this session is $40.
